Lagos State Assembly refuses to screen Fashola’s nominee

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday refused to screen a nominee of the state governor, Adisa Ipaye, for failure to present his resident registration card.

Governor Babatunde Fashola had sent the name of Mr. Ipaye and another nominee, Olusola Adeosun, to the House for confirmation as members of the State Audit Service Commission.

Mr. Ipaye, who appeared for the screening, was asked for his resident registration card but said he had yet to register with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA.

The nominee also failed to present his West African Senior School Certificate and told the lawmakers that he did not know it would be required during the screening.

He said that he had yet to collect the certificate from Odogbolu Grammar School, which he attended from 1969 to 1973.

The Deputy Speaker, Taiwo Kolawole, who presided over the plenary, said it was important for residents to register with LASRRA.

Mr. Kolawole also said it was very important for anyone seeking political appointment in the country to have the senior school certificate.

He said that the House would not wait for the other nominee, Mr, Adeosun, who was said to be held up in traffic.

Following the developments, the House postponed the confirmation of the nominees pending the time they would present their certificates and resident registration cards.

The House later adjourned sitting till Monday, next week.
